Glass Extension to Farmhouse in Surrey

IQ Glass has released a new set of professional project images showcasing a contemporary frameless glass extension sensitively integrated into a historic farm property in Surrey, offering editors access to high‑resolution visuals of modern glazing applied to a traditional building context.
The project centres on the insertion of a minimal glass link and extension that connects to the existing structure while maintaining a clear visual distinction between new and old. The newly released photography highlights how frameless glazing has been used to reduce visual mass at the junction, allowing the original building to remain the dominant architectural feature.
Working with an existing rural structure presented a number of technical challenges, particularly around aligning precision-engineered glazing systems with irregular historic fabric. The intervention was designed to sit lightly against the building, using clean lines and minimal detailing to create a transparent transition between spaces.

Emma Greene, National Sales Director at IQ Glass, said:
“When working with historic properties, the success of the design often comes down to how quietly the connection is made. The frameless detailing of the glass link allows the extension to connect seamlessly, without interrupting the character or visual hierarchy of the original building.”
Dan Lobb, Senior Project Manager for the South West division at IQ Glass, added:
“Installing modern glazing into older buildings always requires careful coordination. There is very little tolerance within glass systems, while historic walls are rarely perfectly straight. Achieving the final result is about detailed surveying, precise fabrication and careful installation on site to ensure everything aligns as intended.”
The newly available imagery captures both the architectural clarity of the glass extension and the complexity of integrating contemporary glazing into a traditional farm setting.
