Fassa Bortolo collaborates with Complete Rendering Solutions on award winning restoration project
Fassa Bortolo, the leading Italian render specialist, is proud to announce a new industry win on a recent renovation project with Complete Rendering Solutions (CRS).
Winning the refurbishment category at The Insulated Render and Cladding Association (INCA) Awards, the collaboration saw the restoration of Horsley House Farm, a Grade II listed building in Warwickshire that dates back to the 1650’s.
Contracted by CRS, the oak frame building with brick infill took over three years to complete due to planning constraints, including the need to meet a strict 0.25 u-value. The project required a vapour permeable, insulated render system that could be applied externally to help preserve the renovated interior frame. The aim was to create a warm and draft free house, with a finished surface texture that was in keeping with a 360-year-old farmhouse.
Using their expert building knowledge, the Fassa team were on hand to specify the best External Wall Insulation (EWI) System for the project, whilst ensuring the building remained breathable and maintained its period character. The client wanted the outcome to appear traditional, so the decision was made to specify an insulated system using a lime-based render on to mineral wool; as close to a traditional system as possible.
A fully integrated system was used on all external walls to meet the requirements, including a 150mm mineral wool insulation, a permeable base coat, covered with a 1.0mm mineral top coat. Unlike cavity wall insulation, Fassatherm systems are applied to the outside of the structure to maximise living space inside.
An example of EWI innovation and excellence, the INCA judges awarded the win based on attention to architectural and technical detail and the quality of the finished product.
Dale Telling, commercial manager at Fassa UK commented: “We’re delighted that our products helped contribute towards the award-winning success of this project. Our customer support is second to none and we’re always on hand to offer the best solution to any project, no matter how out of the ordinary the requirements are. Our knowledge of integrated systems means we can provide bespoke solutions, so projects like the Horsley House Farm renovation are possible.”
Rupert Hopcraft, owner of Horsley House Farm added: “With guidance from Fassa and CRS we have managed to avoid all the details that look out of place on EWI retrofits, including the sharp edges created by using corner beads, so we rounded off all the external corners to create a look that is true to the era. The use of this lime-render and EWI combination has been key to obtaining listed building approval.
“Fassa were extremely helpful, offering sound technical information and selecting a colour and texture that suited this historic listed building. We’ve had an excellent experience working with Fassa and CRS from start to finish. They thoroughly deserve the industry award received for this unique project.”
